June 17th Auction Summary

Hudson Valley Auctioneers, located at 432 Main Street, Beacon, New York will present an unreserved antique and estate auction with absentee, phone and online bidding through Liveauctioneers.com on Monday June 17th at a 3:00 PM EST beginning with an incomparable collection of period Hollywood movie and stars related magazines and ephemera from the Estate of Paul Trent. In house previews are Sunday 6/16 from 1pm-5pm and Monday from 12 noon- 2:30pm or by appointment beginning 6/7.

The sale includes select items from estates in Woodstock, Putnam Valley, Scarsdale, Carmel and other locales.

The Paul Trent collection was housed in a large Victorian mansion on a bluff in Hastings on Hudson, Trent, a Mercy College professor, writer, and producer, started collecting ephemera and memorabilia when he was 14 years old, born in 1940 he amassed an extensive collection of material included in the auction in addition to thousands of items available through direct sale prior to and during the preview. 

The general sale begins at 5:00 pm with Asian items highlighted by two exceptional wood carved gilt Japanese figures, Chinese coins, various porcelains and four stone archer rings.

The sale includes select items from estates in Woodstock, Cold Spring, Mahopac, Rhinebeck, Carmel and other locales.

Furniture selections from early to recent feature a fine early Phyfe style sideboard, several old cupboards, two Welsh cupboards, a rare double 19th century architects drafting desk,a selection of oak Gothic Revival pieces, a bronze mounted gilded marble top pier table, a pair signed Westport chairs from the same Maine coastal estate our past offering came from and some good 19th century garden. Mid Century highlights include a pair of BoConcept swan chairs, a rare Baker sideboard, a pair of Schumacher Furnishings mirrored cabinets, LeCorbusier lounges and sofa, a pair ofJohannes Anderson for Moreddi teak chairs, a large Omni wall unit, a complete Harvey Probber bedroom suite sold separately, a fine Harvey Probber desk, a FLW for Henredon single headboard and a Wittman authorized Joseph Hoffman settee.

Auction Summary, February 25th & 26th!

Hudson Valley Auctioneers, located at 432 Main Street, Beacon, New York announces two upcoming auctions in February on consecutive dates with absentee, phone and online bidding through Liveauctioneers.com. The first sale is part two of, and the final offering of, the recently discovered cache of artworks executed by Marzette Watts. 

Following the success of our October 9th 2023 sale featuring 150 pieces, the remaining watercolors, woodblocks and charcoals of the enigmatic social activist, musician and artist will be sold. A color catalog of the offering is available along with a comprehensive catalog of the October sale including his biography is available for $20.00 plus postage from the gallery or during the preview. 

The sale will be held Sunday afternoon, February 25th at 4:00 PM with an in house preview Sunday 1pm-3:30 pm.                                                                           

On Sunday the 25th an additional preview of items included in the next day's auction, scheduled for Monday February 26th at 5:00 PM, will be available for viewing.                                                                                                   Monday's sale features three sales in one. 

The first 75 lots consist of a one owner estate collection of Southern face jugs by various makers including W.T. McLennan, Dwayne and Brandon Crocker, M. Pittman, Bob Shields, Bob Armfied, Mike Hanning, Kenneth George, Frank Van Dorsten and many others.

Annual New Year's Day Auction!

Hudson Valley Auctioneers, located at 432 Main Street, Beacon, New York will celebrate New Years Day 2024 with an unreserved antique and estate auction with absentee, phone  and online bidding through Liveauctioneers.com on Monday January 1st 1:00 PM EST.  In house previews are Sunday 12/31 from 1pm-5pm and Monday from 10 noon- 12:30 PM or by appointment from December 15th. Traditionally one of our best sales of the year, this auction will offer 475 lots of traditional antiques, excellent Arts and Crafts, lots of silver and jewelry, fine art, Mid Century, Asian and Persian items and more.

This sale begins with Asian items highlighted by another collection of Chinese archers rings from the same remarkable collection we've been dispersing for several years. several porcelains, bronzes, wood carvings and artwork. 

Artists represented in the sale include Anthony Thieme, Samuel Simpson Carr, Vincent Clare, Wladislaw Malecki, Bernard Buffet, Rufino Tomayo, John Heliker, Arthur Coppedge, Dorothy Deyrup, Louise Abrams, Adam Emory Albright, John Wells, George A. Traver, Daniel Ridgeway Knight, Georges Noel, John Picking, Henry Gasser, Walt Louderback, Helen P. Wolhaupter, Henry van Notti, Warren Davis, Susan Kahn, Robert Brackman, Arthur Parton, Armand Marie Guerin, Helen Jackson Brill and others. 

Mid Century items include Brutalist examples led by an early Paul Evans slate, wood and hammered and welded steel polychromed sideboard from a Queens NY estate. The original owners collected Asian and modern sculpture and several other items are available such as a fine marble and bronze sculpture by Arnold Geissbuhler, a bronze Danish vase by Just Anderson and a Fantoni pottery vase.  A rare Hans Wegner armchair, pair Sven Dysthe "Planet" chairs, Tibergaard Danish dresser, a beautiful burlwood and chrome dining table, a set of eight Stendig chairs, Eames airport lounge seating, Bitossi figural pottery lion, lots of Venini, rare Erik Merton chair, a pair of Lapalma stools, a Fornasetti sunburst magazine stand, a Gino Sarfatti for Knoll period lamp and a fine Moulthrop Ashleaf maple bowl are among the offerings.

Period Art Deco items and Austrian Secessionist items feature a rare Marcel A. Bouraine "Turbot" illuminated bronze sculpture, an original Poul Henningsen brass and copper table lamp, a Paul Frankl side chair in original unrestored condition, an excellent three piece split reed sofa set and a fine quality steel and marble side table.a Knox Tudric inkwell, several pieces of Wiener Werkstatte pottery, a fine selection Loetz and Moser glass, Austrian period metalwork and other period makers.

American Arts and Crafts are represented by an excellent 1900 dated Charles Rohlfs chest of drawers never offered and from the original Buffalo NY family, a fine pair of Rohlfs oak candlesticks with original reflectors, L.C. Tiffany bronze and glass candlesticks,  lots of Roycroft copper, art pottery including Teco, 1904 Van Briggle, Volkmar, Roseville and others, a Gustav Stickley desk, settle and rare book cradle and other items from the period.

September 18th Auction Summary

Hudson Valley Auctioneers, located at 432 Main Street, Beacon, New York will present an unreserved antique and estate auction with absentee, phone and online bidding through Liveauctioneers.com on Monday September 18th at an early start of 3:00 PM EST.  In house previews are Sunday prior from 1pm-5pm and Monday from 12 noon- 2:30pm or by appointment. The sale includes approximately 550 lots representing about 40 partial estates and consignors. 

Mid Century highlights in furniture from a Scarsdale estate include several Paul Evans pieces, an  Edward Wormley for Dunbar table, Nelson for Herman Miller dressers and chairs, two wall units, one in rosewood,  H. Probber steel based table, Milo Baughman sofa set and many other pieces. Several Ernest Shaw iron sculptures,  a Ron Kent wooden bowl,  Galle cabinet vases, Curtis Jere sculptures, Elsa Paretti, Kosta Boda and other MCM items mix in with a strong selection of 19th century Grand Tour bronzes, L.C. Tiffany lighting and bronze accessories, an exceptional Japanesque French bronze and marble clock set, a selection of vintage musical instruments, many various clocks and a selection of 19th century lighting. Mention should be made of a single lot of several thousand baseball and sports cards in excellent condition unsorted and ungraded, a rare early Pepsi machine, 2 unusual stick phones, a Gargoyle enamel standing sign and can, an early Standard Oil galvanized tub, four Singer Featherweight machines, an All Star Comet slot machine and a exceptionally rare Meek and Sons Model 44 trout reel in excellent condition.

Sets of fine china by makers Royal Crown Derby, Lenox, Meissen, Limoges, Wedgewood will be sold as well as an extensive collection Mary Greogory enamel glassware sold in lots, a large single lot of cranberry glass, an exceptional epergne, a large lot of Victorian silverplate items, a shaving mug collection, a large section costume and fine jewelry and several hundred ounces sterling holloware and flatware sets are other examples of the diversity of the auction.                                                                                                      

Several paintings are led by a large nude by Robert Brackman, a large old master probably Spanish Colonial, a fine W.P. Stubbs oil of the Yacht Frank M. Mcgear, and other works by artists A.V. Hollingsworth, William Lester Stevens (attrib), C.H.H Burleigh, William Mulready, B.H. De Hoog, Peter Max and others.  Good garden including Victorian cast iron urns and a dog headed bench, some wicker, lots of barrister bookcases, good country, French bronze mounted pieces, brass inlaid India rosewood pieces, a fine pair of brass inlaid 19th century game tables, a carved Horner cheval mirror, lots of Baker and other quality 20th century pieces are scattered throughout.

Among the Asian items are another offering of 12 Chinese archer's rings from the same remarkable collection we have been selling for two years, several porcelain pieces, several woodblocks by Shiko Munakata, a large Japanese bronze elephant group, a China Trade gouache of the Hongs at Canton ca. 1835 and among other pieces a perhaps historically significant collection of photo postal cards and two large albums of fascinating photographs taken by Clarence Wilson of Middletown NY circa 1900 in his travels to rural China and Japan with descriptions of various scenes of village and artisan life.
